Abstract
The triboelectric charging of polymers is a well known phenomenon. It can be observed after a mechanical contact of two polymer particles. Here, the phenomenon was used to develop a technical process to separate particle mixtures of different polymer species in their fractions. Beside the chemical structure of the polymers some external parameters determine the charging behavior. Those parameters can be considered as tools to control the separation process. But their effective application requires a fundamental understanding of the molecular and electronic processes that generate charges on polymer surfaces.
