Areas of Research

The Functional Colloidal Materials department develops new concepts for materials based on particulate building blocks and their integration as sensor or optoelectronic components in materials for biotechnology, biomedicine and environmental applications.

System core competencies:

  • Synthesis of functional particles (plasmonic, dielectric, hybrid particles)
  • Assembly of colloidal particles (template-assisted self-assembly)
  • Biopolymers and polyelectrolytes
  • Polyelectrolyte coatings
  • Optical and electronic metamaterials

Core methods:

  • Optical spectroscopy (UV-Vis / NIR, dark field spectroscopy, time-resolved spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, ATR-FTIR spectroscopy)
