Title Dressing blood-contacting devices with platelet membrane enables large-scale multifunctional biointerfacing

Abstract Coating nanomaterials with platelet membranes has raised increasing attention. The excellent biocompatibility and unique surface proteins of the platelet membrane make it possible to improve the biosafety or biodistribution of nanomaterials. The benefits of cell membranes are also hoped to improve the performance of implantable devices, but there are currently no reports of successfully applying them to large-scale devices and achieving curative effects. In this work, a large-scale platelet-membrane coating (PMC) is developed. We find that the PMC has the properties of an anti-coagulant and an anti-inflammatory and supports endothelial cell growth, which can be attributed to the retention of platelet membrane proteins in the coating, and platelet-membrane-coated vascular stents can resist in-stent restenosis and promote re-endothelialization. Furthermore, this method for preparing the large-scale PMC can be extended to the applications of other types of cell membranes.
