Title Improved gas barrier properties of composites based on ionic liquid integrated graphene nanoplatelets and bromobutyl rubber
Date 31.12.2016
Number 50741
Abstract In this work, rubber composites based on bromobutyl rubber (BIIR) and ionic liquid (IL) integrated graphene nanoplatelets (GnPs) were prepared by a melt mixing technique. The IL helps to delaminate the GnP particles in the rubber matrix. The lastomeric material thus obtained shows a considerable improvement in gas barrier properties. Addition of 5 phr GnPs reduces the gas transmission rate by about 64%. Transmission electron microscopy shows better dispersion of the GnP sheets in BIIR-GnP-IL composites compared with BIIR-GnP. Wide-angle X-ray scattering experiments indicate the presence of fewer stacked GnP sheets in the BIIR-GnP composite.
