Title Verwertung von PTFE-Glasfaser-Compound-Abfällen - Ergebnisse einer Wertstoffentwicklung

Abstract Glass fibre reinforced PTFE compounds (PTFE/GF) are manufactured as semi-finished products and processed by machining to appropriate products. In contrast to non-modified PTFE waste the PTFE/GF waste of machining is not recyclable and is disposed. This contribution is dealing with a process of PTFE/GF recycling, and first results are presented, in which PTFE/GF waste is processed to useful material. The first step is a decomposition of PTFE in PTFE/GF waste by irradiation to produce powders with glass fibre content. In a subsequent compounding with PA-6 chemically bonded PTFE-PA-6 materials (with glass content) are formed. In tribological tests these compounds show nearly the same behaviour like products manufactured with pure PTFE. The chemically bonded PTFE-PA materials show a very good friction behaviour. A special feature is the excellent wear resistance of such materials compared to physical mixtures.
