Title Segregation in Mixed Polymer Brushes
Date 06.10.2003
Number 11684
Abstract The chemical separation of mixed polymers into microphases represents a powerful and inexpensive tool for the fabrication of nanostructures. An international team comprising researchers from Germany and the Advanced Light Source has explored changes in the surface chemical structure of mixed polymer brushes exposed to different solvents. A brush consists of polymer chains chemically attached to a substrate. The team's observations, made with the photoemission electron microscope PEEM-2 at the ALS and an atomic force microscope (AFM), provide guidance for creating novel materials that adapt to their environment by changing their surface properties.
