Title High temperature rheo NMR of polymer melts
Date 31.12.2003
Number 11091
Abstract Knowledge of the flow properties of polymer melts is desirable for a fundamental understanding and for the design of appropriate processing. The properties are determined by the viscoelastic properties and cannot readily be mimicked by model fluids. As opposed to common rheology experiments rheo NMR permits microscopic insight into the material under shear. In addition to the spatial distribution of the components the velocity in the directions of interest for each voxel is measured. While rheo NMR so far has been limited to room temperature of temperature, here a rheo NMR probe for temperatures of 200oC and above is introduced. Additional contrast is generated from relaxation times or chemical shift maybe generated to separate the flow fields of the individual components in a complex system. Examples shown include commercial PVC and crosslinked polyamidines.

NMR Spectroscopy of Polymers
The 225th ACS National Meeting, New Orleans, LA, March 23-27, 2003
