Title Control of Protein Adsorption on Responsive Polymer Surfaces
Date 30.09.2005
Number 13511
Abstract We report on a novel responsive system, containing charged/non-charged polymers, grafted onto a planar surface to guide protein binding and surface conformation of adsorbed proteins. This study analyzes various parameters of the grafted layers that control adsorption of proteins on the surface of stimuli responsive polymer brushes. We found a sharp environmental response of the protein adsorption on the surface of the brushes. The protein adsorption is very sensitive to the brush composition and pH of aqueous environment. The adsorption values can be tuned by change of pH due to changes of surface charges and the surface composition of the mixed brushes. The gradient mixed brushes allow for the fabrication of the gradient protein layers. The value and the direction of the protein concentration gradient was tuned by change of pH.

Polymers for Bioactive Surfaces
The 230th ACS National Meeting, in Washington, DC, Aug 28-Sept 1, 2005
