Research Group Multi-Material Composites
Research Focus
The Multi-Material Composites group focuses on the development and characterization of multifunctional fiber-reinforced composites in which different matrix systems and fiber types are deliberately combined within a single component. Emphasis is placed on multi-matrix and multi-fiber concepts that enable a spatially differentiated tailoring of structural and functional properties. A key research focus lies on the development and application of Tailored Matrix Placement (TMP) as well as on fully granular composite concepts with locally adjustable material properties. In addition, modelling- and simulation-based approaches are employed to describe and optimize material behavior. Sustainability aspects and life cycle assessment are considered early in the material and process development.
