Mission statement

Our core expertise is the surface modification including functional integration in technological applications.

What we do...

The group „Interfacial phenomena in technological systems” works in the field of application-oriented researches. Our main task is the surface modifications including functional integrations, which are mostly industrial polymers. Our research field contains plasma modification to generate functionalized surfaces, structuring, controllable adhesion and coatings on polymeric materials. Therefore, we mainly operate with low pressure and atmospheric plasma devices in combination with plasma enhanced layer deposition of silicon organic additives (HMDSO, TEOS, etc.). Mostly important is the understanding of these modification processes and their effect on the surface via surface-sensitive methods. In common we proceed the investigation of chemical, topographical or interaction properties of the generated surface modifications in their context on the application. Examples of applications are antibacterial properties, friction and adhesive control, permeation barriers and further more.
