Title Shrinkage and Phase Separation During Curing of Epoxyireactive Rubber Blends
Date 19.06.2008
Number 429
Abstract We studied on epoxy resins based on OGEBA (diglycidyJ ether of bisphenol-A), using DOS (diamino diphenyl sul fone) or AH (cis-cyclohexane-l ,2-dicarboxyacid anhydride) as hardener, the effect of carboxyl terminated butadiene-co-acryJonitrile rubber (CTBN) on the epoxy curing. The epoxide curing reaction was followed by means of a GNOMIX-PYT-apparatus recording the shrinkage as measure for the degree of conversion, by OSC, and by ATR-IR spectroscopy. The polymerization induced phase separation (PIPS) was followed by optical microscopy, laser light scattering, AFM, and SEM. For comparison, a non-reactive CTBN-ester was used as modifier. The effects of the reactivity of the rubber, which was modified by the addition of dimethyl benzylamine (DMBA) as catalyst, on the curing kinetics, PIPS, and the resulting network structure was evaluated.
