Abstract
|
New polyesters with phosphorus in a phenanthrene-like substituent were synthesized by transesterification polycon¬densation conventionally used for PET. The reaction conditions chosen gave P-polyesters with medium molar mass and clearly assignable chemical structure. The P-polyesters had an amorphous structure and a considerably higher Tg than conventional polyesters. The polycondensation could also be carried out successfully in presence of layered sili¬cates yielding in situ nanocomposites with partial exfoliation of the silicate layers and good interfacial adhesion. No significant difference in the distribution of clay platelets between the in situ synthesized nanocomposites and directly melt compounded nanocomposites could be found. The incorporation of phosphorus into the polyester altered the fire behavior
