Title Preparation, characterization and application of thin hyperbranched polymer films

Abstract PMSE 212 - The 231st ACS National Meeting, Atlanta, GA, March 26-30, 2006<br /><br />Thin films of hyperbranched polyesters with different endgroups and backbone architecture were prepared by spin coating on silicon wafers and annealed above their glass transition temperature. The surface topography and film properties (thickness and refractive index) were analyzed by atomic force microscopy and spectroscopic ellipsometry. The surface properties of hydroxyl-terminated aromatic (HBP A) and aromatic-aliphatic (HBP B) hyperbranched polymers were studied as a function of the annealing time using axisymetric drop shape analysis (ADSA). Due to the more flexible backbone structure we found in contrast to the HBP A no dependency of the surface tension from the annealing time. Furthermore the backbone structure seems to have no influence on the surface hydrophobicity. Different “grafting to” techniques will be described.
