On June 26, the IPF once again participated in the annual Dresden Science Night, welcoming around 400 visitors. Through laboratory tours, demonstrations, and hands-on experiments, guests of all ages gained insights into current research in polymer and materials science.

Across 19 stations, visitors encountered a wide variety of topics, including animal-inspired surface structures and electrochromic materials for smart windows. Other exhibits highlighted plastics recycling and upcycling, methods for detecting microplastics, and the role of polymers in advanced nanotechnologies. Visitors also explored how polymer materials are tested for strength and durability and learned about fiber technologies and 3D printing.

Hands-on activities included physics experiments illustrating phenomena from everyday life, while a kids’ quiz guided younger visitors through the different stations. Alongside the scientific program, visitors enjoyed food and refreshments, as well as activities in the courtyard, such as live music and a football goal-shooting challenge.

The IPF thanks all contributors for their efforts in making this year’s Dresden Science Night a success.
