Research Group Lightweight Design
Research Focus
The Lightweight Design group focuses on the structural design and optimization of fiber-reinforced composite components for high-performance lightweight applications. Emphasis is placed on load- and application-appropriate design strategies in which geometry, fiber architecture, and material distribution are tailored to specific boundary conditions and requirements, while also considering aspects of product design.
To this end, numerical methods, optimization-based approaches, and manufacturing technologies such as Tailored Fiber Placement (TFP) and Filament Winding (FW) are systematically combined. Manufacturing-related constraints are explicitly taken into account, providing a basis for the development of efficient, high-performance, and application-oriented lightweight structures.
