Title Dendrimers and hyperbranched polymers based on 2,2-Bis(hydroxymethyl)propionic acid and their potential application in non-covalent interaction
Date 27.11.2009

Abstract Hyperbranched (hb) and dendritic polyesters were developed on the basis of thymine derivate as a core and 2,2-bis(hydroxymethyl)propionic acid as a functional monomer. Their potential as a source for preparation of supramolecular associates was estimated. The hb polymers, though appealing from the synthetic point of view turned out to be unsatisfactory. The molecular weight and polydispersity could be under good control, but the major problem is the incorporation of core molecules. Despite application of cores with different functionality the degree of incorporation has not exceeded 15%. All this leads to poor interaction with the templates and it in turn makes such materials inappropriate for the applications in non-covalent interactions. On the other hand, the dedndrimers seems to be promising as molecular precursor to generate supramolecular structures.
