Abstract For emerging nanotechnology in the field of material science and life sciences, the self-assembly of nanoparticles is a powerful technique to form materials with complex architectures at scales from nanometer to macroscopic dimensions. The use of bottom-up approaches from different nm-scaled building blocks was successfully applied. In this context, the self-assembly of dendritic structures, dendrons and dendrimers is known to form hierarchically ordered materials, including nanowires, but no nanowires consisting of nanoparticles and dendrimers. In our approach, the in-situ formation and stabilization of CdSe nanoparticles, including wire formation on solid substrate, were carried out in the presence of minor dense-shell glycodendrimers. Results of TEM and AFM confirmed the formation of several glycodendrimer-CdSe nanoparticle hybrid wires in dimensions of several µm length scales.
