Abstract
|
Some polycation/azo dye multilayer thin films were built up on glass substrates using a layer-by-layer approach. The polycation used in all experiments was of integral type, with N,N-dimethyl-2-hydroxypropyleneammonium chloride units in the main chain (PCA(5)), but the dyes differed by the number of sulfonic groups. The influence of the adsorption conditions of a PCA(5) monolayer (polyion concentration and ionic strength) on the surface charge was revealed by electrokinetic measurements. The multilayer growth and stability were followed by UV-Vis spectroscopy and xi-potential measurements in dependence on the dye structure and the polycation adsorption conditions.
