Title Potential of cycloaddition reactions in the synthesis of hyperbranched polymers

Abstract The [4+2] Diels Alder cycloaddition as well as 1,3-dipolar CA, reactions which are very well know in organic synthesis and in the step-wise synthetic approach towards dendrimers, are also highly suited for the preparation of one-pot hyperbranched polymers of interesting properties and with various degree of branching. Besides the advantages of these reactions like high selectivity, thus high tolerance towards additional functionalities, high yields and often synthesis under mild reaction conditions, the involved intermediates offer the chance for deviations from the statistical degree of branching in one-pot AB2 methodologies and allow the formation of structural units not accessible in any other reaction method, as will be shown by several synthetic examples.
