Title Synthesis and Polymerization of Alkyne-Containing Monomers: Towards Dendronized Polymers via Combination of NMRP and Click-Chemistry

Abstract POLY 307 - The 231st ACS National Meeting, Atlanta, GA, March 26-30, 2006<br /><br />Dendronized homo and block copolymers (coil-rod type) shall be synthesized via combination of NMRP and Click-Chemistry. Since polymers will be used for nano-patterning purposes the controlled radical technique is used to obtain low polydispersity materials and to allow reinitiability for block copolymer synthesis. Therefore, the polymerization of an alkyne containing monomer with an alkoxyamine initiator (Hawker adduct) was investigated. It was found out that 4-trimethylsilylethynylstyrene can be homopolymerized in a controlled manner. Furthermore, the preparation of block copolymers was successfully carried out by using a well definded macroinitiator and subsequent addition of 4-trimethylsilylethynylstyrene. In a Cu(I)-catalyzed reaction a Fréchet type dendritic azide was linked to the pendant alkyne group of the polymer backbone.
