Research Focus
The Advanced Composite Modelling group focuses on the numerical modelling, simulation, and optimization of highly complex fiber-reinforced composite structures with a high degree of design freedom. Emphasis is placed on multiscale approaches and advanced simulation strategies to describe mechanical and structural component behavior while accounting for realistic fiber architectures and manufacturing processes such as Tailored Fiber Placement (TFP) and Filament Winding (FW).
A particular focus lies on data-driven and model-based design and optimization methods, including the use of generative AI-based approaches to accelerate the transition from theoretical modelling to practical engineering applications. Experimental investigations are evaluated using advanced correlative methods and closely coupled with simulations to establish robust foundations for simulation-based design and process chains.
