12th Dresden Polymer Discussion

Despite the problems with the cloud of volcanic ashes affecting flights all over Europe: THE MEETING WILL BE HELD!

HOWEVER, THE LECTURES WILL START SOMEWHAT LATER (ABOUT NOON ON MONDAY) AND THE PROGRAMME WILL HAVE TO BE RE-ARRANGED A BIT.

PARTICIPANTS: PLEASE CHECK YOUR MAILs!

12th Dresden Polymer Discussion "New developments in polymer synthesis: Control of structure and functionality"
Meißen, April 18 to 21, 2010

Program (as of March 15, 2010)

List of posters (as of April 13, 2010)

Dresden Polymer Discussions are discussion meetings with a limited number of participants. All oral presentations are invited lectures. Contributed posters are accepeted in a limited number.

The topic in 2010 is "New developments in polymer synthesis: Control of structure and functionality".
In the last few years the possibilities of polymer synthesis have been considerably expanded. in particular methods of controlled synthesis allow to adjust materials with regard to molecular mass, molecular mass distribution, introduction offunctional groups, the build-up of block, graft and star architectures, as well as morphology.  Many of the methods are still very new, and have developped very quickly, and both their chances and their limitations have not been fully explored yet. Although very interesting complex new structures have been published, only very few of the new synthetic routes have been used in industry so far.  intensive scientific exchange, involving also representatives of industry, is necessary to exploit the potential of polymer synthesis for development of special polymer materials for hightech applications such as medicine, microelectronics, communication technology, and power generation.
The 12th Dresden Polymer Discussion shall bring together experts in polymer synthesis representing different approaches and fields. All major aspects of polymer synthesis shall be considered, the most recent possibilities for control of structure and functionality shall be discussed, and potentials and limitations of the methods shall be assessed.
Therefore the meeting’s programme does not focus on certain materials properties, but on the different methods, which include: (controlled) radical polymerisation, anionic and cationic polymerisation, catalytic methods (metallocene polymerisation, metathesis polymerisation), polycondensation/addition, addition/cycloaddition reactions for build-up and modification of polymer structures, combination of different polymerisation techniques for build-up of complex polymer architectures, methods to produce hybrid materials (organic/inorganic and synthetic and biological, respectively), methods for surface functionalisation.
