Highlights of the djR Summer School 2026 on “Rheology for Sustainable Materials”

From June 9 to 12, 2026, the djR Summer School on “Rheology for Sustainable Materials” brought together early-career researchers and experts in Dresden for four inspiring days of lectures, hands-on training, and scientific exchange.
Hosted by the IPF and the Institute of Lightweight Engineering and Polymer Technology (ILK) at TU Dresden, the program covered theoretical, experimental, and application-oriented aspects of rheology.
In addition to lectures on the fundamentals of rheology, a particular highlight was the hands-on sessions, where participants gained practical experience in capillary, rotational, oscillatory, and extensional rheology. By working directly with advanced experimental setups, attendees explored how rheological properties are measured and how they relate to the structure, processing behavior, durability, and performance of complex materials.
Special emphasis was placed on sustainability-related materials, including polymers, elastomers, thermoplastic elastomers, food systems, and other complex fluids. The practical sessions greatly benefited from the involvement of industrial partners, who contributed valuable application-oriented expertise and generous financial support.
Many thanks to all participants, lecturers, organizers, and partners for the engaging discussions, active participation, and inspiring days together in Dresden.
