Second Price by the AVK in the Category of Innovative Processes and Methods

We were awarded for our joint project “Design and manufacturing of a 3D CFRP load-bearing structure based on planar tailored fiber placement (TFP) preforms, using the example of a wishbone bracket of a Formula Student race car” together with ELBFLORACE Formula Student Team TU Dresden e.V..
Together, we established a tailored fiber placement (TFP) process that enables the creation of a complex, lightweight, and highly resilient 3D truss-like structure. The stitched fiber preforms are oriented according to internal load paths, ensuring optimal strength-to-weight efficiency. The resulting component weighs only 183 grams—approximately 40% less than a comparable titanium part—while still capable of sustaining loads up to 5 kN.
A huge thank you to the IPF team and all ELBFLORACE members involved for their great work and dedication.
