Title Multifunctionalized methacrylate di -and triblock copolymers: synthesis and nanostructure
Date 23.05.2012
Number 31084
Abstract The introduction of functionalities into block copolymers opens a wide field of possibilities for subsequent reactions, for instance to stabilize the morphology or to create stable hybrids. Methacrylate-based di- and triblock copolymers were synthesized by sequential anionic polymerization. Allyl methacrylate was used to form the third block and as comonomer distributed randomly in one of the blocks of a diblock copolymer. Anionic polymerization with allyl methacrylate raised the polydispersity of poly(pentyl methacrylate-b-allyl methacrylate-b-pentyl methacrylate) slightly. The successful introduction of allyl functions was proven by NMR spectroscopy. Thus, the synthesis of triblock copolymers having a middle block with one reactive group in each repeating unit was achieved. The block copolymers are phase separated which was shown by SAXS, TEM and by a calculated phase diagram. The allyl functions could be converted into OH-functions by hydroboration raising the polarity of the respective block and thus, the state of phase separation.
