Abstract
|
Stimuli sensitive hydrogels change their properties in dependence on a liquid environment. The temperature sensitive hydroxypropylcellulose (HPC) gel shows a volume phase transition in water at about 48 °C. For different applications a crosslinking of a preformed layer of the dry polymer on a support is necessary. It is known, that HPC dissolved in water is crosslinkable by high energy irradiation (electron beam). Now, we could show, that HPC can be crosslinked in the dry state by high energy irradiation. This allows the preparation of thin crosslinked layers of HPC on silicone substrates.
