Mechanical and thermo-mechanical material characterisation

Fields of work

With universal testing machines in our lab a wide range of mechanical tests including tensile, compression, bend, peel, tear, friction, shear and impact testing can be performed in accordance with ASTM, ISO, and other industry standards to mechanically and thermo-mechanically characterize the entire range of polymer materials. This includes standard material samples from the micro to the macroscale level and also textile structures as well as complex structural components. Therefore many standard and specifically in house developed accessories e.g. different load cells, thermal chambers, various grips, optical strain measurement systems and thermal imaging analysis devices are available.

Equipment

  • Various universal ZwickRoell testing machines (ranges F 10 N to 100 kN, T -90 to 250 °C, different long-distance extensiometers, in-situ video monitoring, 3D optical strain measurement)
  • Dynamic servo-hydraulic testing machine MTS 810 (F up to 50 kN, f up to 40 Hz, T -130 to 315 °C, different extensiometers)
  • Dynamic testing machine Instron ElectroPuls E1000 (F up to 1 kN, f up to 100 Hz, T -130 to 315 °C, different extensiometers)
  • Two optical 2D deformation analysis systems (Messphysik)
  • Two optical 12 MP 3D deformation analysis systems (GOM ARAMIS)
  • One optical 1 MP High Speed 3D deformation analysis system (GOM ARAMIS High Speed, f up to 9000 Hz at full sensor size)
  • Impact bending testing (Charpy, Izod) and impact tensile testing 1 - 15 J
  • HDT/Vicat measurements
  • Density measurement (Helium-Micro-Pyknometer as well as buoyancy)
  • Ball-indentation hardness und Shore-A-hardness
  • Nanoindenter G200 for nanoscale mechanical indentation testing with different tip geometries (Berkovich, sphere) and scratch test
