New project of Dr. Ben Newland funded by DFG

The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) will support Dr. Ben Newland over the next two years through his project „Development of a transplantation platform technology applicable to improving graft survival in the brain“.

He will work on developing new materials to assist cells during the transplantation process. Cell therapies hold the potential to halt the progression of neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's disease and Huntington's disease. However, the majority of cells grafted to the brain die soon after transplantation. In order to improve the survival of the cells we will produce microscale materials capable of releasing nutrients to the grafted cells to provide support for them during the early stages post transplantation. If successful, such materials could improve the efficiency and outcomes of cell therapies in the brain.

Congratulations!
