Title Study of the phase behavior of poly(pentyl methacrylate-b-methyl methacrylate) diblock copolymers
Date 31.12.2006
Number 14292
Abstract The main objective of the presented work was focused on the understanding of the phase behaviour of diblock copolymers consisting of poly(pentyl methacrylate) and poly(methyl methacrylate) blocks (PPMA-<em>b</em>-PMMA) with the aim to obtain nanostructured surfaces. Block copolymers with varied molar masses and block length ratios were synthesized via sequential living anionic polymerization. Their phase behaviour in bulk was studied by SAXS and AFM measurements. The experimental data revealed that the PPMA-b-PMMA segregated preferentially into lamellar morphology. This tendency was found even in the case of block copolymers with volume fractions of PPMA of 0.86. Cylinder nanophases were detected at <em>&Phi;</em>PMMA=0.78. The low value of calculated interaction parameter (&chi; = 0.065) as well as the partial miscibility observed between the blocks resulted in a weakly phase separated system.
