Title Responsive mixed polymer brushes for patterning of surfaces
Date 22.07.2003
Number 11226
Abstract We report the surface patterning with chemical contrast applying switching/adaptive properties of mixed polymer brushes. Two approaches: microcontact printing and photo-lithography were successfully used to reversibly create images on the thin film surfaces. The mixed brush undergoes microphase segregation upon exposure to controlled environment or due to the contact with confining wall. Theoretical analysis and experiments give evidence that these interactions can be used to tune surface chemical composition of the brush. The particular composition can be frozen by cross-linking. The contrast in switching properties of cross-linked and not cross-linked areas results in reversible patterning in different environment.

Polymer Brushes: From Synthesis to Functional Microstructures
The 225th ACS National Meeting, New Orleans, LA, March 23-27, 2003
