Paper “Analysis of the binding of cytokines to highly charged polymer networks’’ published

The new paper Analysis of the binding of cytokines to highly charged polymer networks by Uwe Freudenberg, Passant Atallah, Jens-Uwe Sommer, Carsten Werner and Matthias Ballauff presents a model for how biological signaling proteins bind to highly charged polymer networks. The model highlights the critical role of counterion release in protein adsorption to the network. The study compared the model to experimental data obtained from biohybrid polymer networks composed of crosslinked glycosaminoglycan chains. The research could have significant implications for understanding the behavior of proteins in the tissue and help design artificial matrices to control cell fate decisions.

The paper was published in Macromolecular Bioscience.
