Paper "Combining Cryogel Architecture and Macromolecular Crowding-Enhanced Extracellular Matrix Cues to Mimic the Bone Marrow Niche" published

The new paper Combining Cryogel Architecture and Macromolecular Crowding-Enhanced Extracellular Matrix Cues to Mimic the Bone Marrow Niche by Laura Martínez-Vidal, Valentina Magno, Petra B. Welzel, Jens Friedrichs, Martin Bornhäuser and Carsten Werner presents a 3D bone marrow (BM) niche model based on macroporous cryogels decorated with tissue-specific extracellular matrix (ECM) deposited in situ by human BM-derived mesenchymal stem cells. The supplementation of the culture medium with macromolecular crowding molecules allows for the recapitulation of a more physiologically relevant microenvironment, which results in the deposition of ECM with physicochemical properties similar to those of the endosteal niche of the bone marrow. The study was published in Macromolecular Chemistry and Physics.
