Abstract

POLY 266 - Branched Polymers in Emerging Technologies

Cycloaddition reactions proved to be very versatile and suited for the synthesis of hyperbranched polymers with a variety of end groups due to the resulting high yields, high selectivity, very clean reactions and often the absence of any side reaction. Especially two types of reactions are very promising: the Diels Alder reaction of cyclopentadienones with alkynes leading to a large variety of dendrtic polyphenylenes otherwise very difficult to realize and the 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction of azides with alkynes. The latter allows not only the preparation of entirely new dendritic structures, it is also very efficient concerning the introduction of complex functionalities into dendritic structures. Thus, hb polycarbonates which can be used as porogens in a hb polyphenylene matrix in order to create nanoporous hb polyphenylenes as low K materials could be prepared by a CA reaction.
