The department consists of these working groups:

Chemical modification of PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene)

  • (Advanced) development of chemically coupled (high performance) plastic PTFE materials, particularly for tribological applications
  • Development of specially modified PTFE nano/micro powders as additives for chemically coupled material systems as well as additives for special lubricants
  • Development of (bonded coating) lubricant systems for deformation processes

Polymeric membrane materials

  • Membranes (MF, UF, NF / RO) with reduced fouling tendency and chlorine resistance (NF / RO)
  • Development of new ion conductive membrane materials (cation exchange and anion exchange materials) for electrochemical applications (eg. fuel cells and energy storage systems)
  • Preparation of membranes using solvent-free processes

Thermo-controlled reactions

  • Development of shapeable powder coatings for pre-coating of semi-finished products (metal sheets or coil) and for the logistic redesign of technological processes
  • Development and modification of low-temperature cross-linking powder coating materials for application on SMC and wood materials
  • Determination of kinetic parameters and simulation of curing conditions on (two step curing) powder coatings
  • Development of substances and application technology for a permanent antistatic or conductivity finish of wood composites and plastic materials

Highfield-induced interface reactions

  • Molecular structure determination of interfaces, also buried interfaces, by non-linear nanoparticle based FTIR spectroscopy
  • Reactive Coupling of polymers in high magnetic field
  • Development of sensoric surface coatings processed by surface reactive injection moulding
