6th European Conference on Constitutive Models for Rubber | |||||||||||||||||||
From September 07th to 10th was scheduled the 6th European Conference on Constitutive Models for Rubber (ECCMR 2009) in the conference hall of the Technical University Dresden. More that 155 scientists from over 17 countries ahd attend this event.
The ECCMR conferencen are scheduled on bi-yearly base and take place on different places in europe. This conference was initiated to give leading polymer scientist, experts of material testing methods, experts of modelling and software developers a interdisciplinary platform for networking and information exchange. The last three conferences had take places in Paris (2007), Stockholm (2005) and London (2003). The term "constitutive" is to express that mathematical modells are applicable and thus it appears that it will be able to discribe the behaviour of rubber parts during complex stress condions. On this base it should be possible to optimise the properties of polymer material, to predict the behaviour depend of the use case and to enhance the reliability during there usage. For example, it attaches great importance in tyres, sealing systems, suspension and engine mounts, where service life and reliability must be improved continuously. In addition to the oral presentations, 30 poster presentations encourage the intense scientific discussions. The three plenary talks given by internationally reputed scientists about fundamentals of continuum mechanics of rubber materials (Prof. Miehe, Universität Stuttgart, Germany), friction and abrasion (Prof. Busfield, Queen Mary University of London, UK) and fracture mechanics and service life of rubbers (Dr. Mars, Cooper Tire & Rubber Co., USA) can be definitely counted among the highlights of the conference.
The conference was supported by the german research foundation (DFG) within the activities of the research group 597 "Fracture Mechanics and Statistical Mechanics of Reinforced Elastomeric Blends" and nine industrial concerns (rubber and tyres manufacturers, measurement technology provioder and one aircraft manufacturer). These four institutes of different university had combined organise this conference:
The confernce dinner on the paddle-steamer "Dresden" will be for sure treasured in everybodys mind. On this occasion Prof. Heinrich had ceremoniously presented a bottle of saxony wine to the organiser of the 7th European Conference on Constitutive Models for Rubber, which will be held 2011 in Dublin, Ireland. |
