Abstract
|
Low Pressure Plasma has been successfully applied to immobilize and crosslink thin polymer coatings based on poly(N-alkylacrylamide)-g-poly(ethyleneglycol). The thermo-reversible properties of the resulting hydrogel films were studied with ellipsometry and contact angle measurements. It was found that there are two time regimes of swelling, a dynamic swelling occurs within seconds and is complete within a few minutes, whereas the swelling equilibrium requires several days. The observed volume phase transition is more gradual for PDEAAm containing films, whereas the PNiPAAm films exhibit a sharper transition.

Polymer Surfaces and Interfaces
The 225th ACS National Meeting, New Orleans, LA, March 23-27, 2003
