Abstract | Definition: Layered double hydroxide (LDH)-based rubber nanocomposites are fabricated when nano-dimensioned (interlayer distance ~nm range) layered double hydroxide clay is externally incorporated into rubber matrices.

Rubber nanocomposites are a new class of elastomeric materials with a future promise of potential applications as high-performance materials. By introducing a small amount of nanoparticles <5–10 % (by wt.) inside the elastomeric polymer matrix, a significant improvement of various properties can be realized. Extensive scientific efforts have been paid to this area, and a couple of thousand claims and findings are reported. Layered structured clay minerals are one of the focused nano-sized fillers which have been explored in different elastomeric polymer matrix to find high-performance elastomeric materials.

Encyclopedia of Polymeric Nanomaterials
ISBN 978-3642296475 |
