Title Biomimetische Polymerbeschichtungen für innovative Therapien

Abstract The development of new materials for medical devices is one of the greatest challenges for current materials science. One most important task in this field is careful adjustment of the surface characteristics of solid materials to support advanced biomedical applications, such as cardiovascular implants or cell scaffolds in cytotherapies or regenerative medicine. To this end, it is necessary to utilise both the state of the art in materials design by means of molecular, nano-scale, microtechnical and macroscopic methods and the wealth of knowledge about bio-interfaces currently arising in the life sciences. This contribution reports on reactive coatings consisting of alternating copolymers of maleic anhydride, which were found to provide a very versatile means of surface-selective functionalisation for a wide variety of base materials.
