Electrokinetic measuring station

The electrokinetic measuring station allows a variety of electrokinetic experiments to be carried out. It can be equipped with different measurement cells for specific experiments. One major topic is the investigation of zeta potential and solid/liquid interface conductivity. For such experiments the station can be equipped with a micro slit cell that was also developed at the IPF. The cell consists of an adjustable slit in the micrometer range, where the sample can be set in. The measurement of the streaming potential and streaming current allows the determination of the desired parameters. The station contains sensors for the measurement of the pressure at the inlet and outlet of the slit, the streaming potential, the streaming current, the pH-value, the temperature, the volume flow and the conductivity of the electrolyte. PC controlled units allow changing the slit width, the pressure of the electrolyte and therewith the volume flow, the flow direction and the pH-value. A complex software allows to control a variaty of process sequences and to calculate and display deduced parameters like e.g. the zeta potential. The electrokinetic measuring station is also used in other applications like experiments with membrane cells or potentiometric titration.
