Abstract
Until now only solvent-based coatings were used for the painting of fibre reinforced components. A major disadvantage of solvent-based systems is the high manual effort to achieve a high quality surface. First aim of the project is the technological adaptation of powder coating to replace the wet coating. In addition it is intended to develop a new method for coating the visible surface of glass fibre and carbon fibre reinforced components, similar to the manufacturing of sheet moulding compounds (SMC). The “in-mould powder coating” is to be modified for application in small-series production in resin transfer moulding and vacuum infiltration method as well as hand lay-up lamination. The previous coating step makes it possible to manufacture off tool components which do not require any additional post-processing and painting anymore.
