Flame retardancy

Scientific base for the development of halogen-free, polymeric flame retardants for engineering plastics

  • Flame retardancy needed in many applications in E&E and automotive industry
  • European regulations WEEE, RoHS and REACH support this research

    Approach:

    • new phosphorus-containing polymers with systematically changed chemical structure to understand the influence of the chemical structure,
    • in-situ synthesis of nanocomposites

    Goals:

    • design of the contributions to gas phase action, condensed phase action and intumescence for different types of sample geometries
    • flame retardancy for biobased plastics
