Title Einflüsse der Oberflächenrauheit auf den Verschleißschutz von Schmierstoffen

Abstract Based on the method to determine the protection against wear (BRUGGER test), the influence of surface roughness and the wettability on the wear protection of lubricants was evaluated. Two test rings were applied which were pretreated in different ways by grinding. As lubricants poly-a-olefin (PAO Synfluid® 6) and a PAO/CHE®-LUB-P1635-PTFE-cg-based dispersion (cg = chemically grafted) were used. The dispersion was prepared from radiation modified PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) micropowder in presence of the phosphorus containing compound CHE®-LUB-P1635 (AW additive). Based on the findings it can be concluded that a preferred direction was induced in the test ring by grinding with abrasive paper. This results in strong alterations of the BRUGGER value for the PAO/CHE®-LUB-P1635-PTFE-cg dispersion. The BRUGGER value of the base oil PAO is not affected by the different pretreatment methods. The resulting surface roughness and the different degrees of interaction between the substances and the metal surface determine the wetting behavior and hence the resultant wear protection in terms of high-value BRUGGER values (= higher wear protection).
