Title Gradient polymer brushes
Date 31.12.2003
Number 12007
Abstract In the present work, we report the synthesis and characterization of gradient polymer brushes prepared from polymers covalently attached to silicon substrate. The brushes were grafted to the surface through reactive poly(glycidyl methacrylate) (PGMA) layers. Scanning probe microscopy and scanning ellipsometry analysis showed uniformity of the PGMA anchoring layers on nanometric level. Carboxy terminated polystyrene (PS) and poly-2-vinylpiridine (PVP) were dip coated on the wafer with epoxy functionality, and the substrate was annealed with temperature gradient generated along the wafer. Ellipsometric measurements demonstrated formation of gradient polymer brush on the wafer surface. The PS and PVP gradient brushes attached at different grafting densities were studied by SPM.

Polymer Brushes: From Synthesis to Functional Microstructures
The 225th ACS National Meeting, New Orleans, LA, March 23-27, 2003
