Development, adaptation and application of chemical reaction principles for technical processes for the development of new materials, improvement of characteristics of commercial plastics as well as (advanced) development of processes, in particular for: 

Thermally controlled reactions in and with technical polymer masses

  • Development of shapeable powder coatings for pre-coating of semi-finished products (metal sheets or coil) and for the logistic redesign of technological processes
  • Development and modification of low-temperature cross-linking powder coating materials for application on SMC and wood materials
  • Determination of kinetic parameters and simulation of curing conditions on (two step curing) powder coatings
  • Development of substances and application technology for a permanent antistatic or conductivity finish of wood composites and plastic materials

Interface-reactive processes to increase composite bonding

  • Examination of quick reactions on interfaces of polymer melts, including modelling and simulation
  • Surface-reactive injection moulding for in-situ surface modification in the forming process for subsequent coatingling, bonding or metallising
  • Interface-reactive injection moulding to increase composite adhesion
  • Composites of pre-coated and deformable or deformed metal parts (sheets) with thermoplastics by interface-reactive injection moulding

Melt modification reactions: chemical coupling of PTFE with polymers

  • (Advanced) development of chemically coupled (high performance) plastic PTFE materials, particularly for tribological applications
  • Development of specially modified PTFE nano/micro powders as additives for chemically coupled material systems as well as additives for special lubricants
  • Development of (bonded coating) lubricant systems for deformation processes

Process induced surface and interface characterization

  • Molecular structure determination of interfaces, also buried interfaces, by non-linear nanoparticle based FTIR spectroscopy
  • Reactive Coupling of polymers in high magnetic field
  • Development of sensoric surface coatings processed by surface reactive injection moulding
