Freezing of water in concentrated poly(N-vinyl pyrrolidone) solutions
The freezing-melting behavior of water in concentrated poly(N-vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) solutions is studied. Substantially faster melting of the frozen aqueous solutions of PVP with molar mass of 2,500 than those of higher molar mass polymer (10,000) was observed. Additionally, it is shown that the melting of frozen PVP solutions becomes faster after repeating the freezing-melting process. The underlying mechanism is considered.
