Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC)

Basics

Schematic DSC thermogram
  • Thermal characterization technique for determination of enthalpy changes (endo- and exothermic) due to changes in physical and chemical properties of a material as a function of temperature or time
  • Samples with known masses are repeated heated and cooled, changes in heat flow can be  converted into Cp
  • Detection of transitions such as melts, glass transitions, phase changes, and curing

Our Equipment

DSC Q 1000 (TA Instruments)

  • Advanced TZEROTM Technology for fast signal response and maximum sensitivity
  • Independently measured sample and reference heat flows

Discovery DSC 2500 (TA Instruments) with Refrigerated Cooling System (RCS120)

  • Modulated DSC®, (MDSC®), for efficient separation of complex thermal events
  • Measurements in the range of -120 °C up to 400 °C
  • New Fusion Cell™
  • T4P Tzero® heat flow technology to conduct and store heat capacity measurements in a single run
