13th Dresden Polymer Discussion

MOLECULAR BIOENGINEERING meets POLYMER SCIENCE

April 1 to 4, 2012

Scope

Dresden Polymer Discussions have been organized by the Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research Dresden and the Chair of Macromolecular Chemistry of the Dresden University of Technology since 1986.
Under the headline Molecular Bioengineering meets Polymer Science the 13TH DRESDEN POLYMER DISCUSSION is going to address one of the most exciting topics in todays’ materials research: biology-inspired design of functional materials referring to the archaic principle of learning from nature.
Nature offers a huge inventory of functional systems that may serve to solve technological problems. To be able to use such functionalities in novel materials, they have to be identified and studied on molecular level in living systems, and basic principles have to be translated into synthetic systems. This would allow to develop, e.g., innovative adaptive and self-healing materials, mechanisms of molecular recognition, assembly, and transport, as well as matrices for exploitation of the endogen regenerative potential of living organisms.
As polymers provide the basis of functionalities in natural systems, advance in the field of molecular bioengineering depends to a large extend on exploitation of the potential of polymer science. The 13th Dresden Polymer Discussion shall bring together leading experts from different fields to present and intensively discuss novel concepts and results in biology-inspired polymer research.

Scientific Program

The program will consist of about 25 invited talks of renowned international researchers and a number of contributed papers (most of them poster presentations and only very few contributed oral presentations). The seminar will provide ample time and space for discussions and exchange of ideas.
